Se cuenta que toda la obra de Dante -autor de la Divina Comedia- fue inspirada por un momento único de amor, y que ese amor sigue vivo.

Todo comenzó cuando el joven Dante estaba cerca del Ponte Vecchio -un bello puente medieval que cruza el río Arno en Florencia- era el 1300 aprox. Dante reconoció una mujer joven que estaba sobre el puente, llamada Beatrice. La vista de ella encendió en él una visión que contenía toda la eternidad. Dante solo le hablo un par de veces, y poco tiempo después de su epifanía Beatrice falleció, a causa de la plaga.

Dante estaba destrozado por la pérdida, pero su trabajo fue inspirado por Beatrice. Ella se transformó en su musa, su espíritu, el puente entre su alma y el mismo cielo.

650 años mas tarde, durante la segunda guerra mundial, los americanos perseguían al ejército alemán por la península italiana, mientras los alemanes, en retirada, iban volando todo a su paso, incluyendo los puentes, para detener el avance americano.

Pero nadie quería volar el Ponte Vecchio, porque Beatrice había estado parada sobre él, y Dante había escrito sobre ella.

Por ende, los líderes del ejército alemán hicieron contacto radial con los americanos, y en lenguaje franco, dijeron que dejarían el Ponte Vecchio intacto si los americanos prometían no usarlo. Se hizo la promesa. El puente no fue volado y ningún soldado americano ni su equipo lo cruzaron. El puente fue salvado en una guerra despiadada porque Beatrice había estado sobre él, y el amor había tocado a Dante.

Recuerda los días cuando estuviste enamorad@, como se sentía un día de primavera, con el florecer de azafrán y ciruelas o un atardecer crujiente de otoño con el aroma de las ardientes hojas, como tu corazón se elevaba cuando te encontrabas con tu Beatrice o tu amado parado en la esquina de la calle. Y si nunca te enamoraste a causa de la opresión o el dolor a tu alrededor, el poeta persa Rumi sugiere: «hoy es el día para comenzar».

Amor, conciencia y presencia son nuestra naturaleza. ellas se funden. el sabio Nisargadatta lo dice así: «La sabiduría dice yo no soy nada. El amor dice yo lo soy todo». La conciencia percibe cada experiencia. El amor las conecta a todas. Por un tiempo, puedes verte atrapado en el miedo y separación. todos lo vivimos. Y después la conciencia y el amor recuerdan. It is said that all the work of Dante -author of the Divine Comedy- was inspired by a unique moment of love, and that love lives on.

It all started when the young Dante was near the Ponte Vecchio – a beautiful medieval bridge that crosses the Arno River in Florence – it was around 1300. Dante recognized a young woman on the bridge named Beatrice. The sight of her ignited in him a vision that contained all eternity. Dante only spoke to her a couple of times, and shortly after her epiphany Beatrice passed away from the plague.

Dante was devastated by the loss, but his work was inspired by Beatrice. She became his muse, her spirit, the bridge between her soul and heaven itself.

Thus, the German army leaders made radio contact with the Americans, and in frank language, said that they would leave the Ponte Vecchio intact if the Americans promised not to use it. The promise was made. The bridge was not blown up and neither American soldier nor his team crossed it. The bridge was saved in a ruthless war because Beatrice had been on it, and love had touched Dante.

Remember the days when you were in love, how a spring day felt, with the blooming of crocuses and plums or a crisp autumn sunset with the aroma of burning leaves, how your heart rose when you met your Beatrice or your loved standing on the street corner. And if you never fell in love because of the oppression or pain around you, the Persian poet Rumi suggests: «today is the day to start.»

Love, awareness and presence are our nature. they merge. the sage Nisargadatta says it like this: “Wisdom says I am nothing. Love says I am everything ”. Consciousness perceives every experience. Love connects them all. For a while, you can find yourself trapped in fear and separation. we all live it. And then conscience and love remember. Oh, this is also a place to love.
